The 2024 edition of Bigger and Better Foundation Handwriting is designed to help the teacher and student treat handwriting in the classroom as an extension to the new English Syllabus.
Lesson and sequences for the teaching of handwriting have been set for students and teachers in this book. A variety strategies are suggested along with a detailed Program of Achievement, Objectives and a Lesson Register.
The student is encouraged to practise basic movements, fluencies, letter shapes, words, sentences and letter shape families. Numerals are treated also. Letters are practised in the context of basic movements of letters and extend to sentences with capital letters. The senior grades have suggested lesson content to practise handwriting. All other aspects of handwriting are extended as a student’s skills develop in the handwriting process.
At the completion of each lesson students are encouraged to assess progress. The teacher can use the Outcomes Checklist to evaluate and monitor the development of handwriting skills and finally assist with monitoring the development of handwriting skills.
